Best Beehiiv alternatives in 2026
These are the 2 closest tools to Beehiiv that we track, ordered by what they cost to start. Each entry says how its pricing differs from Beehiiv's — based on the numbers we hold, not on who pays us. We do not publish a quality score, because we do not have one we can stand behind.
Of the 2 alternatives on this page, 1 publish a price we could verify. The cheapest paid step among them is Ghost at $18/mo billed annually, while Beehiiv starts paid at $43/mo.
Why people leave Beehiiv
- Interface: The sheer number of features can make the panel feel a bit busy initially.
- Design: Website customization options are not as simple as they are on Substack.
- Newsletter Only: Not suitable for general-purpose e-mail marketing like e-commerce.
These are the drawbacks listed in our own Beehiiv review — not complaints we invented for this page.
- Ghost
Pro publishing platform.
vs Beehiiv: cheaper to start ($18/mo billed annually vs $43/mo).
First paid step: Starter at $18/mo billed annually
Why switch to Ghost
- Flawless Writing: A minimalist editor that keeps your focus strictly on the content.
- Incredible Speed: Node.js-based, resulting in very low page load times.
What you give up
- Hosting Cost: If not self-hosted, the monthly cost of Ghost(Pro) is high.
Best for: Independent Writers, Newsletter Publishers, and Modern Media Firms.
- Substack
Home for writers.
vs Beehiiv: priced differently (Usage-based vs Free tier).
Why switch to Substack
- Zero Upfront Cost: No fixed fees regardless of subscriber count (takes a 10% cut).
- Data Ownership: You own your subscriber list and can move it elsewhere anytime.
What you give up
- Personalization: Your site's design is nearly identical to thousands of other Substack pages.
Best for: Writers, Journalists, and Thought Leaders.
