Uniregistry

Former domain registrar and marketplace acquired by GoDaddy; not evaluated as a current standalone signup option.

What it is

Uniregistry historically served domain investors with registrar, portfolio-management and aftermarket tools. GoDaddy announced the acquisition of Uniregistry's registrar and marketplace businesses in February 2020; the registry business was explicitly outside that transaction. ToolCompare therefore treats this entry as a legacy brand, not a currently comparable standalone registrar. New purchases should be evaluated against the current GoDaddy or Afternic product and terms, while legacy customers should confirm where each domain, listing, DNS configuration and billing relationship now resides.

Key features

  • Legacy registrar

Previously provided domain registration and portfolio tools oriented toward domain investors.

  • Legacy marketplace

Previously supported domain listing, brokerage and aftermarket sales workflows.

  • GoDaddy acquisition

The registrar and marketplace businesses were acquired by GoDaddy; the registry was excluded.

  • Transfer eligibility

Current domain transfer procedures depend on the active registrar's lock, eligibility and authorization rules.

Strengths and trade-offs

What works well

  • Historically investor-focused: The product was built around bulk domain registration, management and sales workflows.
  • Acquisition is documented: GoDaddy's investor-relations release clearly identifies the registrar and marketplace assets acquired.
  • Current transfer route exists: GoDaddy documents how eligible domains can be unlocked and transferred to another registrar.

Where it falls short

  • Not a current standalone choice: Historical Uniregistry features and prices should not be used for a new registrar comparison.
  • Brand ambiguity: The registrar, marketplace and registry are distinct businesses and the registry was not part of the acquisition.
  • Legacy-state verification is necessary: Domain registration, DNS, aftermarket listings and connected products may follow different systems or rules.

Who it is for

Researchers and legacy Uniregistry customers tracing historical registrar or marketplace relationships; not new registrar shoppers.

Our verdict

Do not shortlist Uniregistry as a live standalone registrar. Treat it as a legacy record, locate the active GoDaddy/Afternic relationship for each asset, preserve DNS and connected-service details, then compare or transfer under current provider terms.

Evidence and freshness

Status: Official sources reviewedReviewed: 2026-08-24

Limit: Official GoDaddy acquisition, aftermarket and current transfer sources were reviewed; ToolCompare did not access a legacy Uniregistry or migrated GoDaddy account, verify every migration date or customer path, inspect the separate registry business, inventory DNS or listings, test support, transfer a domain, or compare current GoDaddy/Afternic prices. This record is intentionally historical and should not be read as a current product review.
