What IBM Cloud is
IBM Cloud is a proprietary cloud platform with infrastructure, managed data, Kubernetes, AI and hybrid-cloud services. New Pay-As-You-Go accounts require a credit card and advertise a $200 credit valid for 30 days; selected Lite plans remain free only within their service-specific limits. Catalog services use different metering and commitment models. Stopping an eligible VPC virtual server can suspend compute charges, but attached storage and other retained resources continue billing. IBM operates the underlying cloud infrastructure while customers remain responsible for their data, applications, guest operating systems and disaster-recovery design. Who it is for: organisations already invested in IBM software, Red Hat OpenShift or regulated industries where IBM's compliance posture and hybrid-cloud story matter. Its distinctive pieces are OpenShift as a managed service, the watsonx AI platform, and mainframe-adjacent offerings that the hyperscalers do not have. Where it falls short: breadth and momentum. AWS, Azure and Google Cloud each have larger service catalogues, more third-party tooling, more documentation and a deeper hiring pool. Pricing follows the same pay-as-you-go pattern but is harder to estimate, and some services have quirks in regions and availability. A startup choosing a first cloud has little reason to pick IBM; an enterprise with IBM contracts, Power systems or a strong OpenShift commitment may find it the path of least resistance.
What OVHcloud is
OVHcloud is a proprietary infrastructure provider offering Public Cloud compute, Kubernetes, databases, storage and networking alongside VPS, dedicated servers and hosted private cloud. Public Cloud is normally pay-as-you-go by actual resource usage, with optional monthly or commitment pricing and a promotional trial credit. Instance prices do not automatically include attached storage, backup, extra IPs, load balancers or every regional network charge; resources continue billing until deleted, not merely powered off.
