What it is
Telegram is a cloud-based messaging platform spanning mobile, desktop and web clients. Free users can synchronize cloud chats across devices, exchange files, create groups with up to 200,000 members and broadcast through channels with unlimited audiences. Telegram Premium is an optional, locally priced subscription that raises limits and adds 4 GB uploads, faster downloads, transcription, translation and other convenience features. Security depends on chat type: ordinary private chats, groups, channels and bot conversations are server-client encrypted cloud chats stored on Telegram's servers; only device-specific one-to-one Secret Chats add end-to-end encryption and are not synchronized to other devices.

- Bots run through third-party owner infrastructure and can process the messages or inputs users send them.
- Public groups and channels expose posted content broadly, while large-community moderation, impersonation, scams and retention remain operator responsibilities.

Our verdict
Telegram is powerful community and automation infrastructure, but 'Telegram is end-to-end encrypted' is an inaccurate blanket claim. Use cloud chats for synchronized convenience, Secret Chats only for supported one-to-one sensitive conversations, and treat every bot or public community as a separate trust boundary.
